When they came back home, Alix went directly to bed but Gerald stayed in the living-room. He was humming that little tune again. Alix couldn’t see what he was doing but she had a bad feeling. It was to be tonight. A few minutes later Gerald went to bed. Alix wasn’t sleeping yet. She was scared to death. Then she got out of bed and went to the kitchen to drink some water. In fact she was trying to find a way to escape even if she knew she couldn’t.
She went to the living-room. Her husband heard her and came to see what she was doing. Gerald’s suspicion was aroused. He asked Alix what she was looking for in the living-room but she dared not answer. She had an awful feeling. She had never felt so before ! He was staring at her as if trying to read her mind. Finally he took a knife that he hid under the table then asked her if it was that very object that she had been looking for ! Alix was petrified. She wanted to run away and scream but she couldn’t. Gerald seized the knife and stabbed her.
